I started a new Facebook page to promote CI and collect feedback and ideas about what CI means for different people in diverse communities.
For the moment I define CI as a set of skills, practices and values that foster dialogue and community transformation.
For me they include:
- Deep equality: living well together with difference
- Diversity consciousness: knowledge of the diversity and social factors that organize the community
- Intersectionality: awareness how social group memberships overlap and interact
- Rank and power consciousness: recognition of the unequal privileges and powers associated with disparate social positions and personal histories
- Process awareness: supporting change as it arises; not holding people to static identities and viewpoints
- Deep democracy: appreciating the relevance of facts, thoughts, emotions, dreams, values and spiritual attitudes
- Taking the other side: a willingness to step outside of one’s own comfort zone and relate to opposing point of views
The CI project pages aims at collecting input and creating a platform for dialogue and promoting projects that help building community across differences.
